Scientific Notation the Easy Way

On your calculator you have an EE key, but what does it mean? When you use this key it means you are raising the coefficient to that power of 10. Exponential notation is usually used with only one place to the left of the decimal place. For instance, 555 would be 5.55 E 02, meaning 5.55 times 10 to the 2nd power, or 5.55 x 10^2, or 5.55 x 100, or 555. Scientific and engineering calculators usually allow for setting all output to exponential notation by using the Mode function and selecting Sci or Eng settings for display.

Concentrations in grams/deciliter

In medicine the concentrations of a weighed quanitity of a solute in a solvent is given in grams/100mL, or grams/deciliter. This is done by convention.

Introduction to Medical Mathematics

This blog is devoted to covering medical mathematics. This site includes examples from chemistry, physics, and biology. The mathematics covered is needed to calculate things ranging from density to molarity. Links related to this topic will be included in later posts.
